MOXA - AN ANCIENT REMEDY, PERFECTED FOR TODAY

Moxa is one of the oldest remedies in Chinese medicine and a living bridge from Asia’s classical healing to modern discovery, with insights that ultimately contributed to Nobel Prize–winning advances against malaria.

Uniquely, moxa unites the herb’s intrinsic vitality with therapeutic warmth and the precision of acupuncture points—bringing herbal medicine, physiotherapy, and acupuncture together in a single practice.

Rooted in pure yang principles, it warms, moves, and restores the body’s natural flow of Chi and blood, helping disperse cold and stagnation while awakening innate healing.

THE ROOTS OF MOXA AND ITS LIVING LEGACY

Moxibustion is one of the oldest healing methods from ancient Chinese medicine, dating back to 500 BC. Rather than using acupuncture needles, it is applied externally with a burning herbal stick made from a plant called mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris), which got its botanical name from the Greek moon goddess Artemis.

Artemisia has been widely used in folk medicine throughout the world and is regarded as a pure Yang energy herb in Chinese medicine, which has the power to open up blocked energy channels and heal all sorts of illnesses. It is the most preferred therapeutic option for illnesses for which acupuncture can't be delivered.

Dr. Ge Hong (283-363 BC) was a legendary Chinese medicine and Tao practitioner and one of the most well-known historical figures. His medical text Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang was the source of inspiration for Dr. Youyou Tu's contribution to the treatment of malaria with artemisinin. Dr. Bao Gu's wife was the first female moxibustion practitioner in all of China (309-343 BC).

THE UNIQUE POWER OF MOXA

What makes moxa extraordinary is its unique place in the history of Chinese medicine. Unlike other remedies, moxa is not only a healing herb—it is also a source of therapeutic warmth and light, applied directly at acupuncture points to guide the body’s energy. In this way, it unites three disciplines into one: herbal medicine, physiotherapy, and acupuncture.

This integration allows moxa to penetrate deeply, stimulating the flow of Chi and blood, dispersing cold, and restoring balance where other methods may fall short. For centuries, it has been valued as a remedy that awakens the body’s inner strength and supports healing at the very root of life.

Artemisia (moxa herb) asserts extensive anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties, which have been proven in extensive scientific, clinical, and pharmacological research. The most well-known example is the 2015 Nobel Prize won by Dr. Youyou Tu for her key contribution to the discovery of artemisinin. Her works were actually inspired by an ancient Chinese medical book, which has a great connection with the use of moxibustion. Moxa therapy offers a range of potential benefits, including pain relief, improved circulation, enhanced digestion, boosted immune function, and stress reduction.

THE JURNEY OF CHI-MOXA

ROOTED IN ANCIENT ORIGINS

CHI-Moxa was made from a variety of Artemisia known as Red Foot Mugwort, which was only found in the hidden natural world of Luofu Mountain in the south of China. From this place comes a rare type of moxa, long recognized for its pure Yang quality and deep vitality. Its production technique is protected by 68 patents for its proprietary moxa-making technologies. By starting where history began, CHI-Moxa carries forward the authentic spirit of the tradition.

REFINED FOR ENERGY FLOW

Rooted in tradition yet advanced in design, CHI-Moxa blends our chosen moxa with saffron to elevate its power. Saffron is one of the world's most valuable herbs and it helps open microcirculation, steadies the flow of energy. Its vivid carotenoid essence (crocin/crocetin) is renowned for energizing and harmonizing effects, making it an ideal partner to moxa’s pure yang character. The result is a rare synergy that accelerates energy circulation, penetrates deeply, and powerfully ignites the body’s inherent life force.

RETURNING TO CHI CONCEPT

Instead of applying CHI-MOXA as a disease-based therapy, we align its use with the principle of CHI CONCEPT. The focus is on stimulating and harmonizing the body’s four core energy centers, restoring balance and vitality at the root. In this way, CHI-Moxa returns to the essence of classical energy medicine—where the objective is to rejuvenate the body with a free and dynamic flow of life force to promote self-healing potential.
